Going Fishing in Fiji

Posted by Sam on April 28, 2009

I love to fish.  So do my wife and teenage son.  Whether it’s in a stream, off a pier, in deep ocean, off a reef - we love it all, and we have all kinds of lures and tackle to prove it.  We also have a big freezer full of fish we’ve caught.  And when we go on vacation, it’s almost always a fishing trip.

This year we chose to travel to Fiji because it’s been a while since we’ve been in the tropics and we heard the fishing is wonderful there.  Last year we camped in the woods and fished for trout.  It was pretty rustic, so my wife said this year she wanted to do the opposite - stay in a luxurious Fiji hotel.  As for what my son wants - he’is game for anything.  We’ve never fished for tuna or walu, so that’s on our list.

Now there are fishermen who don’t particularly like to eat fish after catching them - that’s certainly not us. We always eat what we catch. And it’s not like my son and I just hand our catch over to my wife to clean. She’d never put up with that.  We all have to pitch in.

The 4-H Camp Website Needs an Overhaul

Posted by Sam on April 26, 2009

The local 4-H camp’s website is in serious need of an overhaul.  The website pretty much looks the same as it did back in the late 1990’s when the site was first designed.  I would almost bet that you could still view the site perfectly fine on Windows 3.1.

Anyway, I had a chat with the Program Director of the center and he stated that he would like the website to not just reflect 4-H camping at a local level, but camping at a state and even national level.  He would like to have the site ranked in the top of the major search engines on the internet.

I told him that he probably wanted to get in touch with a search engine optimization company.  They could help him design the website so that it has the best chance to get listed near the top of Google.  I’m sure there are SEO packages that would fit the center’s budget.

I’m glad to see that the center has taken some initiative on revamping their website.  The site really had begun to look run down and very amateur.  Hopefully the new website will help to communicate the 4-H spirit that runs through the camp each summer.

Putting Your Children First

Posted by Sam on April 23, 2009

As a parent, we take daily precautions to protect our children. We feed them healthy food and we bath and cloth them. We buckle their seat belts in the car and hold their hands when crossing the street. We watch them as they run around at the park, begging them to be careful as they climb and jump from various pieces of park equipment. We make sure they drink their milk, eat their vegetables, limit their sweets and take their vitamins. We worry about everything and make unlimited sacrifices to ensure they are happy, healthy and safe.

We take precautions to ensure our safety and the safety of our family.  At home, we locked the doors and make sure the home is secure. We are vigilant when strangers are around and we watch our children in large crowds or in strange places to ensure their safety. We install ADT security systems in our homes and set the alarm each night to ward off thieves. We review home security in San Diego and watch the news nightly to find out what is happening in our local area. We educate ourselves about potential hazards and try to take part in our community to make it a better place. As parents, we have an awesome job in raising our children.

Learn From Others Mistakes

Disability insurance Companies know how important it is for physicians to have Physician Disability Insurance, but the question is, do the physicians? I only know really because of my own personal experience that I had with watching the events unfold when my uncle who is a physician and had been for many, many years, was in an accident and was left with long term disabilities that made him unable to practice medicine any longer. I do not know what would have happened to his family and his home life and all the things he had worked for and all the money he had managed to save up for things if he had not taken out his disability insurance not too long before the accident.

It would have been terrible I am sure, because I have heard all of these different horror stories about people who ended up losing their jobs and their livelihoods and then not long after their homes, and even in some cases their wife and kids because they are no longer competent financially or physically to take care of them. Thank goodness he had the good thinking to get the insurance before anything happened to him. I am so glad.
