Looking Forward to Visiting North Carolina

Posted by Sam on August 22, 2009

At the high school where I work in Colorado, we’re getting ready to produce the play, Look Homeward, Angel on October 8.  It’s a Pulitzer Prize winning play based on the novel of the same name by author Thomas Wolfe.

The book is pretty complicated, yet the play is pretty straightforward.  Still, I want to do the play a great deal of justice.  I want to infuse the play with details from the novel, even though they might not be mentioned in the play.  First off, I can definitely use the book’s character backgrounds to help the actors understand their roles better. It is rather semi-autobiographical, and refers to a number of actual places in North Carolina, like Chapel Hill. And the whole feeling-tone of the play suggests some mores and attitudes of that region.  Although the play takes place in 1917, I still think I could get a grasp of the culture if I could experience it just a little bit.

So I was thinking of visiting the area, just to get a taste of the local flavor.  I’ve been looking at rates and think I just might book a room at Sleep Inn.  Durham, North Carolina will give me a nice taste of that region, I think.

The Optimization Business Benefits Lots of People

Posted by Sam on August 21, 2009

My older boys are both in college now, and it’s really tough sometimes to make ends meet.  I also have a two year-old, so his daycare costs only add to the bills.  I think everything together adds up to around $900 a month.  So I definitely needed a way to find an extra couple hundred dollars a month in income.

My sister works for a search engine optimization company.  I’d never heard of this before:  the idea that you can pay to have your own business website pop up sooner in all kinds of search engines.  But she’s been able to throw a few jobs my way that I can do from home.  Being able to do extra work from home has been a godsend!

Now that I’ve moved to Florida, I’m poking around to see if there isn’t a place here that will give me similar work.  There is a Tampa search engine optimization company that looks really terrific.  And they do more than just that:  they also will analyze the pros and cons of your website, and do internet and website marketing for you, as well as pay per click services.  This is a whole new field that more people should really look into!

Construction Trends in Fiji

Posted by SceneR on August 20, 2009

buildingConstruction workers often try to get jobs that allow them to work in beautiful destinations. For awhile, one of the top destinations to get construction work in was Fiji. However, the market in Fiji is changing and it’s not nearly as easy to get a good construction job there as it was just a few short years ago. This doesn’t mean that construction workers can not find jobs in Fiji but it does mean that they need to know where to look.

A few years ago, the place to get a job in Fiji was in the construction of hotels and resorts. Business was booming and it seemed like a new Fiji hotel or Fiji resort was going up every other month. This opened up a load of construction jobs. However, a decline in the economy has reduced the amount of new building that’s going on there today. Construction workers who work on hotels will need to look at renovation work instead of new construction if they want to find a job.

Construction workers may also find that a good place to get a job in Fiji right now is in projects assigned by the government. Construction work on roadways and sewers is still plentiful in this area since the government wants to keep the area nice for visitors. Today’s construction workers can try to find employment in this sector until the hotel business starts improving again.

Online Classes for Mortgage Professionals

Posted by SceneR on August 18, 2009

People who work in certain fields are required to take a specific number of classes each year. Mortgage professionals fall into this category of people. Depending on the area of mortgages that a professional works in, he may be required to get ongoing loan officer training, FHA training or some other specific type of mortgage training. Alternatively, he may simply need to complete a required number of class hours in any general mortgage topic.

Many mortgage professionals are frustrated with these requirements. They feel like they don’t have the time to take away from their work to pursue this type of annual education. This is especially true right now when the mortgage industry is in a tight spot and professionals are working harder than ever before. However, since it’s a requirement that the classes be taken, mortgage professionals have to find a way to fit them in.

A smart choice for these people might be to take their classes online. There’s no rule anywhere that says that the required class hours must be completed in person. Online classes provide the mortgage training that the individuals need without requiring them to stick to a schedule that might interfere with their work. This can simplify the process of learning about mortgages and may even make the classes a little bit fun.
